Week Six: Molasses Crinkles

I was kind of tired of all the cake-y cookies, so I wanted to try something molasses-y.  According to Betty, these were the best cookies of the early 1930’s.  Sounds like a good place to start!

Week Five: Thumbprint Cookies

I actually did make some applesauce raisin cookies last week, but I the camera that I put the photos on is dead, so I will update with those later.  I got a request last week for something with apricot, so I figured that these thumbprint cookies with some apricot preserves in them would fit the bill.  I also made some with cherry preserves for myself and my husband.

Week Three: Pumpkin Cookies (HOORAY FALL!)

I love pumpkin.  Really.  Pumpkin seeds, pumpkin chiffon pie (mom’s recipe, of course), and pumpkin cookies.  I’ve actually made these before, sometime around halloween while I was in college.  I don’t know what I did, but they came out really doughy and kinda gross.  I brought them to a fiction writing workshop, and I got terrible reviews – both for the story and for the cookies.  I decided that these sounded so good in theory that they had to be worth a second shot.

Week Three: Cinnamon Slice Cookies

Yesterday we decided to have a cook-out/grill & porch party.  For those of you who are lucky enough to know me in real life, you know that I have a kick-ass wrap around porch that just begs for parties.  I also decided that we needed some kind of dessert.  Easy and simple, these Cinnamon Slices take no time to prepare.  Make them early, shove them in the fridge, and slice and bake when it’s time to go.

Week Two: Cherry Filled Cookies

I love cherries, but for some reason, cherry flavored things get a bum rap.  I was hoping to change that reputation with these delicious looking cookies.

These were a little time consuming in that they require some chilling, and you have to make the filling as well, but overall, these were pretty easy.  Read more for my notes and suggestions.

Week One: Snickerdoodles

The Snickerdoodle seems to be the cookie that everyone knows how to make except for me.  I had never made a Snickerdoodle in my life, and until recently, I was fairly certain that there were actual Snickers involved.  I had my first Snickerdoodle last year, when one of my favorite students brought them in to school and shared one with me.  I have to admit, it was pretty delicious.

So, when I began this challenge, I was pretty amped to give the Snickerdoodles a try.  I made them last night (Thursday) and by 3 PM today, all 4 dozen were gone.
